In 2008 when we moved to our new offices, our section was formed by combining Barlows Alarms Ltd and Barlows Fire section.
Brief History
We formed in 1989 to provide a quality service for Intruder Alarm systems and in 1993 with our commitment to quality we gained NACOSS (National Approval Council for Security Systems) approval for Intruder Alarm Systems. In 1996 our department was the first at Barlows to achieve ISO9002 Quality Assurance for both product and our quality management system. As the security industry never stands still, NACOSS evolved into NSI NACOSS (National Security Inspectorate) and in 2003 we gained NSI NACOSS approval for Intruder Alarm Systems. In 2004 we received the prestigious NSI NACOSS Gold Medal which approved us for Electronic Security Systems combining Access Control, CCTV and Intruder Alarm Systems.
Our Fire & Extinguisher Department was formed in 2006 and provided design, installation and servicing of not only our own Barlows installed system fire alarms but also third party systems. We also serviced fire extinguishers and emergency lighting systems. Our engineers are trained to the BAFE Fire Protection Industry Modular Scheme SP203.
By combining both Barlows Alarms & Barlows Fire we have created a very strong team of quality staff who operate under one Security & Fire Department within Barlows UK Ltd.
Area of Service
Although our main service area is within a 60-mile radius of our office near Malpas in Cheshire, we install and service systems and equipment from Anglesey to Hull and from Glasgow to Southend.
Our 24-hour response or technicians' assistance/helpdesk is available to all our service contract holders via our out-of-hours service co-ordination.
For your insurance and own peace of mind we are registered with the following police forces:- Cheshire, Dyfed and Powys, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, North Wales, Staffordshire, West Mercia, West Midlands & West Yorkshire.
The Electronic Security Industry as it is now known has undergone many changes from the British Standards, UKAS, Police ACPO Policies and NSI NACOSS, but the largest changes recently is the new European Standards and UK interpretation PD6222.
Alarm systems can be monitored by an Alarm Receiving Centre: we use the largest independent ARC in the UK - Northern & Southern Monitoring Services, which has two secure control rooms in Altringham and Portsmouth and are also NSI NACOSS Gold accredited. This means we can offer a variety of signalling methods, Fast Format Digital communicators, Redcare Classic & Redcare GSM Grade 4, Redcare Fire, Secure 2, 3 & Secure IP and CSL Dualcom Grades 2,3 & 4. All new communicators are ready for the 21CN BT switch over.

Dualcom DigPlus
We now offer DigiPlus. As you may be aware BT is rolling out its 21CN network which could affect older diallers that may not correctly signal the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). To overcome this we can upgrade the standard communicator with a DigiPlus hardware module which fits inside your panel and transmits the signal directly to the Gemini receiver. The benefits do not just stop there, as the systems are newer, systems are signalling even more information to the ARC. We have received a number of customers unhappy with the related call charges - DigiPlus signals by calling on a FREEPHONE 0800 number avoiding all call charges no matter how many times a day you operate your alarm. Not only this but it is also polled by the Gemini receiver for remote monitoring of your standard PSTN telephone line. Installation can take place with our existing customers during our routine preventative maintenance inspections.
